Contracted Services

Contracted Services are performed by our ISA Certified Arborists from an accepted proposal developed from a scheduled appointment and include:

• planting
• tree risk management
• pruning
• removal
• plant disorder treatment
• written opinion

Planting

• replace a removed tree or shrub 
• restore native species to a site
• provide shading and cooling to a building or space
• offer screening from a specified vantage point
• facilitate habitat for pollinators and beneficial wildlife
• reduce undesirable noise, light, air and erosion
• create or improve an aesthetic
• planting is scheduled September through October using methods dependent on site and nursery-stock factors

Tree risk management

• Basic Visual Inspection using binoculars, sounding, probing, excavation and measurement tools to identify and assess risk factors discernable from ground
• Advanced Visual Inspection aloft using clean climbing techniques (without spikes) and sounding, probing and measurement tools to identify and assess risk factors not discernable from ground
• install specialized hardware to reduce risk of failure of branch attachment unions

• thinning or reduction pruning to reduce lever-arm and terminal weight of a branch
• galvanized cable installed in the upper canopies of large trees to limit independent movement of large terminal stems
• galvanized threaded rods installed in branch attachment unions of large trees to provide structural support to weak or defective branch unions
• interlocking polyethylene or rubber webbing to reduce splaying or stem failure in small trees or shrubs
• pruning to remove specified dead branches representing an unacceptable level of risk
• removal of a whole or partial tree representing an unacceptable level of risk

Pruning

• thin, reduce, or raise the form of a tree or shrub for aesthetic or functional purposes
• provide a specified distance of clearance from a roof, eave, siding or adjacent plant
• remove dead or defected branches representing an unacceptable risk or aesthetic
• restore a tree or shrub to its natural or most beneficial form
• improve a vista from a specified vantage point
• using methods including:
• arborists performing aloft using clean climbing (without spikes) and rigging techniques
• assistance of a mobile aerial-lift including for use for fenced-in properties with gate openings 36 inches or greater
• arborists performing from ground with or without the use of ladders

Removal

• whole or partial removal of trees and shrubs for aesthetic, functional or risk mitigation purposes using methods including:
• arborists performing aloft using climbing and rigging techniques
• assistance of a mobile aerial-lift, including for use in fenced-in properties with functional gate openings 36 inches or greater
• assistance of truck-mounted crane positioned on protective mats
• shrub removal using extraction, grinding or flush cut and chemical treatment techniques
• optional stump grinding with or without lawn or bed restoration

Plant disorder treatment 

• plant damaging insects
• pathogenic fungal, bacterial, or viral organisms
• soil and plant nutrient deficiency
• girdling roots
• deteriorating root systems
• soil compaction

Written Opinion 

• written evaluation report
• specific tree or shrub condition – form, function, health and structure
• appraisal of functional replacement, reproduction or repair cost
• tree risk assessment and mitigation action
• tree preservation for construction
• tree and shrub selection
• woody invasive species management

Contracted Services are performed by our ISA Certified Arborists in accordance with American National Standards and MIOSHA General Industry Standards. Arborist Services of Kalamazoo, LLC is fully insured.

Proposals for contracted services are developed from an Arborist Evaluation or other scheduled appointment.

An Arborist Evaluation is required to propose contracted services in Allegan, Battle Creek, Bloomingdale, Decatur, Delton, Lawrence, Marcellus, Mendon, Shelbyville and Three Rivers. Arborist Evaluation fees associated with these cities, villages and townships may be credited towards contracted services within a 12-month period.
